Great Yarmouth is a coastal town located at the mouth of the River Yare on the East Coast of Norfolk, it boasts a beach and two piers and lies approximately 20 miles east of Norwich. It has long been a thriving seaside resort, being the gateway from the Norfolk Broads to the North Sea and a major fishing port, depending mainly on the herring fishing. In the 1960s the discovery of oil in the North Sea led to a flourishing oil rig supply industry and today it also services offshore natural gas rigs. More recently, the development of renewable energy sources, especially offshore wind power, has created further opportunities for support services within the area and the town is now home to a wind farm of 30 generators which can be seen from the shore.
